UPDATED: Winston has made great strides in learning more appropriate bevahior with other dogs. Playtime with other dogs still needs to be watched closely. Winston toys

Winston's ideal home would be with someone who is able to make him a priority. He is a smart lil' pup and needs good positive training. He loves to play fetch - mostly inside; loves to meet people and explore.

He is 9-months old and unfortunately was not raised appropriately for the first few months of his life. In addition he has cataracts which we have had checked by an ophthalmologist. At this point there is nothing to be done about the cataracts except to be monitored on a regular basis - about every 6 months to check for changes. Winston's vision is likely impaired in some way but it does not stop him from being a typical puppy. At some point surgery will likely be recommended so prospective adopters should be prepared for the financial responsibility. However CCK is willing to help defray some of the costs for surgery if and when it's deemed necessary.

The more worrisome issue seems to be Winston's behavior which can be quite unpredictable. He has been in a foster home with 4 other dogs of varying breeds and also in a foster home with 5 other corgis. He loves to run, play, chase and be chased just like any other puppy and does quite well. However usually when not playing he will just randomly go after another dog and bite at them. We do NOT know what provokes this as it seems completely random. It could possibly be due to his vision but we can't be certain.

So for that reason we believe it may be best for Winston to be adopted into a home as an only dog; no cats and no children under age 12.

Winston loves to go for walks and does fair on a leash. He is still learning. He is doing well with house-training but does need to be taken out frequently. He is crate trained. He is still very much puppy so he needs to be watched as he wants to chew on things that he shouldn't and get in to places where he isn't supposed. He isn't particularly cuddly but he's not shy of people and is quite social.

While it doesn't matter so much now as the damage is done, we feel Winston was probably taken from his littermates way too soon and therefore didn't learn a lot of the puppy social skills that are so important during that 4-10 week period. Secondly we feel once he did leave the litter he wasn't taught any proper behavior and was left to his own means which was evident by the condition in which we got him; underweight with worms, covered with fleas and filthy.

Winston KSUWinston has been properly vaccinated, treated for the worms; is heart-worm negative, on preventative; has been neutered and is micro-chipped. Winston's adoption fee is $275. The link to the application is at the very bottom of the "Adoption" page which will give you more information about our guidelines for adopting.
