Bernie

April 27, 2017: It was confirmed today Bernie has DM - (Degenerative myelopathy is a progressive disease of the spinal cord in older dogs. The disease has an insidious onset typically between 8 and 14 years of age. It begins with a loss of coordination (ataxia) in the hind limbs. The affected dog will wobble when walking, knuckle over or drag the feet.) Unless there is someone willing to take on the saddening progress of this disease Bernie will remain in the care of CCK.

He-llewwww

I'm Bernard but you can call me Bernie! I can't tell you a whole lot about myself because I've been moved around a bit. Most recently I was at the Kansas Humane Society in Wichita when a college student adopted me last year. We had great times together but I kind of got sore in the back and my owner didn't know what to do for me so he contacted Corgi Connection.

Bernie 2Turns out the people who are fostering me currently knew me from the corgi gatherings in Wichita! Anyway, my back issues seems to be due to the fact I might be just a teeny bit overweight! I know...right? I was shocked too. So I've been on a strict diet and I get some occasional medicine for pain but mostly I get to go on walks - lots of them and I love to walk! So I'm losing weight! I still have a ways to go but with my foster parents' help I'll get there.

My foster home has several other dogs; 2 of which are corgis just like me and we play! We have this big back yard but what we really like to do is wrestle in the house! It's great fun!Bernie3

So I know I can't stay with my foster family furr-ever and that's ok. I'd like to have a home with maybe just 1 or 2 other corgis and an owner who really likes to go out on adventures. Kids are ok but I don't really want to be around a bunch of little ones; teenagers are more to my liking. I can walk at least a mile now and hopefully it will be more soon with the help of my new family!

I'm neutered, current on vaccinations, on heart-worm prevent and am micro-chipped. My adoption fee is $275.
